Pick a Gift by Budget and Collectibility

Four tiers, from a great first knife to a piece for the collector who has everything. Each shelf below shows what’s in stock right now.

Factory Case & Buck Knives

About $70–$150

Who it’s for: anyone who’ll actually carry it, or someone getting their first good knife. These are new, factory-original Case XX and Buck knives in their original packaging, made to be used every day for decades.

Serialized & Engraved Editions

About $130–$250

Who it’s for: someone who appreciates a knife with a story. Limited runs, many individually numbered, with hand-fired jigged bone handles and engraved bolsters: a step up from factory stock that still gets carried.

Wild Horse Custom Exotics

About $400–$750

Who it’s for: the serious collector. Genuine Case XX and Buck knives rebuilt by J. Kidd in Eastern Kentucky with gemstone, shell, and mammoth fossil handles. Each one is signed, numbered, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

One-of-a-Kind Pieces & Featured Makers

From about $300 to collector grade

Who it’s for: the collector who has everything. Work from respected independent makers and artists, plus Wild Horse Custom pieces numbered #1 of 1, meaning there will never be another exactly like it.

Choosing a Pattern for Someone Else

“Pattern” is the knife’s shape and blade layout. If you don’t know what they like, size is the easiest place to start.

Small: For Everyday Pocket Carry

The Peanut and Baby Butterbean disappear into a jeans or dress-pants pocket and handle everyday tasks like opening packages and cutting twine. They’re a safe bet for someone who wants a knife they’ll always have on them. The Tiny Trapper is another small favorite.

Larger: For Work, Outdoors & Display

The Trapper and Stockman are classic two- and three-blade workhorses (see Trapper vs. Stockman to compare), and the Folding Hunter and Buck 110 are big lockbacks for hunters and outdoorsmen. Larger patterns also give exotic handles more room to show off.

What’s in the Box

Every knife is inspected before it ships and packed in a sturdy, padded box, never a flimsy envelope. Presentation depends on the knife, and each listing states exactly what’s included.

Factory Case & Buck Knives

Ship in their original Case XX or Buck box or collector tin, exactly as the factory packaged them, ready to wrap.

Wild Horse Custom Pieces

Signed and numbered by J. Kidd, with a Certificate of Authenticity. Many newer pieces arrive in a Case XX zippered Taco Pouch, as shown in each listing’s photos. Engraved editions usually include a certificate too.

Not Sure? Send Them a Link

Collectors: if someone keeps asking what you want, take the guesswork out of it. Open the exact knife you have your eye on, copy the link from your browser (or tap Share on your phone), and text it to them. Because most of our knives are limited or one of a kind, a link to the exact listing is better than a description.

Gift-givers: tell us the budget and what they already carry or collect, and we’ll suggest a few options. Contact us, or email this guide to someone who’s shopping for you.

Gift Questions

How fast do you ship?

Orders placed on a business day ship the next business day from our shop in Kentucky, with free USPS shipping to the Lower 48 and a tracking number by email. Once a package leaves our hands, delivery time is up to USPS, and it slows down around the holidays, so order early.

Can I ship it directly to the person I’m buying for?

Yes. Enter their address as the shipping address at checkout.

Can I return a gift?

Yes, if it isn’t right. Contact us within 7 days of delivery. The knife must be unused, unsharpened, and unaltered, and in its original packaging with any certificate, pouch, tin, or paperwork. Contact us before sending anything back, and refunds go to the original payment method. See our Shipping & Returns policy for details.

Are these knives authentic?

Yes. Factory knives are new and in their original Case XX, Buck, or maker packaging. Every Wild Horse Custom piece by J. Kidd is signed, numbered, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
